21
Report of the Harbor Master
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Y
I hereby submit my report as Harbor Master of the Town
of Mashpee for the year ending December 31, 1956.
i
Seven Markers were placed in Little River and on the
sand bar entering Waquoit Bay.
Due to light traffic, caused by a poor bluefish season,
channel depth was not as good as the previous year. This
i depth is obtained from propeller wash from the larger
motor boats and is lost during the winter months due to
storms and tides which shift sand and fill the channel.
Signs were posted restricting speed to five miles per hour,
and prohibiting water skiing in Little River.
The past three seasons have produced a large increase
in boat traffic, particularly in boats over twenty feet in length.
Boats up to forty feet in length have entered the river
for storage, repairs and dockage, and it is only with extreme
difficulty that they are able to cross the bar. Dredging is
the only satisfactory solution to this problem.
Respectfully submitted,
JOHN A. MOORE,
Harbor Master
i
F .
