85
Report of the Superintendent of Schools
To the School Committee and
Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
This is my first official report as your Superintendent
of Schools. To save space, I have condensed the Principal's
report with mine, as it stands to reason that our reports
cover many of the same items.
The Mashpee School Program is unique in many ways.
The present enrollment of the Samuel G. Davis School is 56.
This figure is consderably less than three years ago when the
enrollment was 77. Our present high school enrollment is
22. Three years ago it was 23. These figures indicate that
the Davis School is well able to handle your present ele-
mentary enrollment for some years to come. The town is
indeed fortunate in being able to send its high school students
to Falmouth. The fine building facilities and the broad curric-
ulum make it passible to take care of the interests and the
needs of all students.
Over twenty per cent of our school population is enrolled
in high school, and these students are doing commendable
work. I am sure this continued desire on their part to con-
tinue their high school education can be credited to the
Parents for their foresight in encouraging and providing them
with this opportunity. I am sure they realize that in this
complex world any education less than that of high school
level is inadequate to meet the problems of modern living.
I believe secondly this interest is due to a devoted, interested
and stable teaching staff in the lower grades who have led
and prepared them for this higher step of learning. Last,
