28
i
i
Report of the Shellfish Warden
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
I hereby submit my report as Shell-fish Constable of the
Town of Mashpee for the year 1957.
There seems to be a fairly good crop of quahaugs in cer-
tain areas but the south shore of Popponesett should be
planted as it is pretty well depleted. The Fast shore of Great
River for a distance of 1,000 feet should be planted. There
are quite a few Clams and there is an abundance of seed along
Seconsett Island and the entrance to Great River.
As for scallops, there was and still is a good supply plus
a wonderful set of seed. I have estimated a harvest crop of
16,720, bushels_taken from Waquoit Bay which produced the
biggest crop, and Popponesett Bay was fair.
Number of licenses sold during the year 1957:
Commercial 40 @ $5.00 $200.00
Family 293 @ 1.00 293.00
Total $493.00
Respectfully submitted,
I
EDWARD S. TAVARES
Shellfish Constable
