29
Report of the Harbor Master
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
I hereby submit my report as Harbor Master of the Town
of Mashpee for the year 1957.
Strong currents due to high tides at the close of the
season have washed sand into the channel in Little River
at the entrance to Waquoit Bay, greatly reducing the depth
that was obtained from boat traffic during the past two sea-
sons. At low tide there is not depth enough for an outboard
motor.
During the summer season, considerable damage was
done to channel markers, particularly by the larger boats
running aground in the shallow parts of the channel. Tw'o
' trees, which were moved into mid-channel in Great River
by ice, have been removed.
Other obstructions will be removed or marked as soon as
possible.
The following is a listing of time expended as Harbor
Master for 1957:
Ordering and purchasing of materials 40
Towing, haulout and cutting of obstructions 21
Placing channel markers 34
Maintenance of channel markers 20
Manufacture of channel markers and spars 40
Posting speed restriction signs 4
Patrol 4
Investigation of reported obstructions g
Total hours 171
Respectfully submitted,
JOHN A. MOORE,
Harbor Master
i
i
i
