r
97
Immunization
Booster doses of D.P.T. were administered by Dr. Moore
to eight children in the 1st and 5th grades. Twenty-four re-
ceived polio shots.
Dental
a
Mrs. Alice Dalzell, County Dental Hygienist, applied top-
ical fluoride- to the teeth of 14 children in the 7, 10 and 13
age group.
Dental clinics were conducted by Dr. Julius Golden of
Hyannis. It was soon realized that the dental work necessary,
far exceeded what could be done in the 24 clinics regularly
provided for during the school year and the Board of Health
generously allowed money for 10 additional clinics.
A new dental clinic policy is now in effect and by provid-
ing dental care through ithe 6th grade and having a flexible
means test, we hope the program will be more sound. Drs.
Charles Wolfeand George DeMello of Falmouth, as a dental
advisory committee, have given much time and thought to
the planning of the program.
There is great need for dental education. We would like to see more
Parents assume the responsibility for the care of their chil-
dren's teeth through their private dentist. The children
would then grow up with -an awareness of the importance of
good dental hygiene. I
r7
A successful class on good grooming and personal hygiene
was held for the girls in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades.
Teacher-nurse conferences were held frequently to dis-
cuss the pupils' physical and emotional health.
Home visits were made whenever necessary. Parents ap-
preciate this interest in their children and make every ef-
fort to secure the proper medical attention. This is difficut
at times, due to a limited income.
