Graves
} Superintendent of Schools
a d
+ x Mashpee, Massachusetts
e
Dear Sir:
r}
} i A school population increase of 1447oover a three-year
"4 ;I period has made many problems, such as: shortage of equip-
f; ment, desks, transportation, lack of classroom space, and caf-
eteria problems, in a school plant built originally for the needs
of 80 to 100 pupils. Most of these problems have been eased
with the additional school bus, the acquiring of additional
i classroom teachers, and the providing of classroom space at
., the Town Hall. However, these conditions are only temporary
and until expanded facilities in the form of an adequate school
1 addition are a reality, many features of our school program
will be inadequate.
. Our School Committee and you, Mr. Graves, are to be
S commended for the attention you have given to each problem
i brought about by this sudden increase in enrollment. We, as
i ? teachers and pupils, realize that under the existing conditions
• j all is being done to minimize our difficulties.
3
Because of the crowded conditions, it was necessary to
. R separate grades and to make two first grades and a second
4
i tf grade under separate teachers. This arrangement allows each
t teacher to give her maximum time in helping each child
r
achieve his best work during the year in that particular grade.
+ This year, after careful consideration, the cost of a hot
g ;z, school lunch had to be raised to twenty-five cents, in order to
meet the increased operating cost. Miss Eleanor Peters was
hired as an additional worker. Over one hundred and ten
 t
Al"
t.
a:
Iy
_
