Mashpee Commons' offi- <br /> cials have pledged to continue the improvements in the <br /> j spring of 2006 especially,widening handicapped park- <br /> ing spaces to conform to current ADA regulations. <br /> 1 Although some progress has been made in <br /> improving access in Mashpee much remains to be f <br /> done. Approximately 32% of Mashpee residents age <br /> 65 and older struggles with at least one disability. As <br /> the baby boomer generation approaches retirement <br /> age, this percentage will increase significantly as will <br /> the importance of accessibility. The ADA committee <br /> will continue to reach out to the community to identify <br /> and address issues of concern to the disabled. <br /> One area ofP articular concern is the need for <br /> more accessible and disabled-friendly housing. The <br /> committee will be working with town boards and <br /> departments to increase awareness of this issue. <br /> Another area of significant concern is missing or inad- <br /> equate street signs, particularly on private ways, that <br /> has resulted in disabled residents receiving timely h <br /> delivery of social services such as, hospice services, <br /> Meals-On-Wheels,etc. We will continue to work with <br /> town officials and community associations to seek :. <br /> workable solutions to this problem. We also will con- <br /> tinue to work with town officials to improve access to <br /> public facilities such as the Archives building, public <br /> schools and recreation areas.
