Dick Fellenberg, Southport Resident - Asked if the
currently proposed design -is considered to be superior to
the existing design.
(The speaker was reminded by the Chairman to direct
comments/questions to the Board, not to the developer.
r. Fellenberg' s concern was for the existing poles,
asking if they should be replaced -by the proposed design at
the developer' s expense.
He also asked why the wooden pole design appears to be
so important to the developer. Re stated there are other
types of materials that could be used in place of wood, and
that the Ad Hoc Committee provided the developer with
detailed report in this- regard. However, no mention has
been made to possible alternatives to the use of wood. He
informed the Board that the chosen preference is
fiberglass . He asked if said report had been given. any
consideration by the developer stating 'the design presented
is appropriate, has the appearance of good, is very
economical, and replacement of the posts would never be
necessary. History of the wooden posts has proven that
they require replacement.
At, this point of the discussion the Chairman commented
that she feels quite uncomfortable presiding at a meeting
between the developer and unit owners, stating the Planning.
Board 1eetIng is not the appropriate time or place for this
particular discussion, as discussion should have taken
place prior to this meeting, as had been previously
suggested to the parties by the Board. She spore t-o the
difficulty of answering questions posed by the unit owners
having to addres8 the Hoard.
The Chairman asked the developer directly to state his
objections to- the use of fiberglass poles .
Mr. Bonvie' stated fiberglass poles a-re not a lifetime
item, as they do splinter over time. He- stated more
importantly his reasoning is for appearance and continuity.
He is opposed to changing the pole design at this point o
development, stating the wood/fiberglass poles in
comparison "...do not look at all similar; they look totally
different" . He repeated, "...it is aesthetics and
continuity. " As the developer he appears before the Board
7
