There was some discussion regarding the supplier' s <br /> guarantee of the pressure treated wood prior to lamination <br /> into the posts, the possibility of gaps between the various <br /> layers of materials, and the remedy (positioning of the <br /> laminate in this instance. <br /> The Town Planner suggested the need- for revision of <br /> the detail regarding placement of the bolts and comments by <br /> the Consulting Engineer, for the next scheduled meeting. <br /> He also expressed concern that there ha-s not been any <br /> communication/meeting. between the builder and the unit <br /> owners as previously discussed. <br /> There being no further Board discussion, the Chairman <br /> opened the floor to members of the public for their comment <br /> and recognized the following speakers <br /> Gail Barnes, Southport Pad Hoc committee Chairman <br /> Expressed quite clearly and strongly that this is a matter <br /> of safety, not -aesthetics -or -ma-intena-n . <br /> She expressed concern for the tiring of this matter, <br /> stating if not addressed at this time, the unit owners will <br /> have to bear the costs of replacement, as well as possible <br /> personal injury issues. She reminded the Board that the <br /> first pole to fail narrowly missed hitting a- vehicle. <br /> t the July 215t Planning Board Meeting the developer <br /> was granted a.n additional 0-days in which to make a <br /> ffort t reach a consensus with the community. She stated <br /> the Ad Hoc Committee feels strongly that the developer has <br /> failed to follow Planning Board direction, to present the <br /> proposal to the unit owners for consensus. she reminded <br /> the Board that the Ad Hoc corm ittee had presented the <br /> developer with its recommendations on May 7t�. At that <br /> time it was the consensus -of a considerable number of unit <br /> owners of their preference fr fiberglass poles . Said <br /> recommendation having been based solely on the issue of <br /> safety. <br /> The Ad Hoc Committee requested the Planning Board to <br /> postpone any decision on the light pole issue this evening <br /> until such time as discussion has taken place between ,the. <br /> developer and unit owners, or until after the Planning <br /> Board site visit scheduled for September 11' . <br />
