Update Mashpee Commons Meeting
The Town Planner reported that he and Mr. Rowley
attended the meeting. The major focus was on Nobs Fishing
Road. The proposed design shows two 11-ft . lanes and 7-ft.
parking on one side. The rain point made by the Town
Planner, Mr. Rowley, and the Zoning Board of Appeals was
that there not be a waiver of the -ft . wide parallel
parking space requirement a 'Stated in the Zoning Bylaw.
The width of the roadway beyond the parking spaces has
not been determined. The concern being with the hard
vertical granite curbs located on bath sides. In the event
of an emergency traffic should be able to move over to the
side to allow the emergency vehicle to travel through the
middle.
Mr. Rowley suggested 1 - t. wide lanes. Fire Chief
Baker expressed concern that there be adequate room for the
emergency fire vehicles/equipment to pass .
Nor. Rowley also expressed concern regarding the -way
intersection shown on the plan. He suggested moving the
southern extension to Jobs Fishing Road in order to reduce
the intersection to a -way.
Mr. Storrs has agreed to reanalyze- the issue of road
width.
There was also some discussion regarding the Zoning
requirement for parallel parking spaces to be 2 -ft. lone
(with the possibility to approve a waiver request for 2 -
ft . in a low traffic area) . Mashpee Commons expressed a
preference for - t. long spaces, which the Zoning Board
is willing to consider waiving. Eowever,, the matter was
not resolved as there was discussion regarding the existing
traffic conditions in Mashpee Commons .
The "down Planner took the position that Jobs Fishing
Road 'is meant to serve as a bypass and is part of the
Mashpee Commons ring road. There needs to be adequate
traffic flow so as not to be conceived a-s a slow, crowded
road, to be avoided.
The Town Manner reported a conversation -he had with
Jason Talimam, special Counsel 40B, Kopleman & Pace,
6
