It
further requires that applicants report both measured existing sound levels and projected future
sound levels,reported in day-night average sound level(LdB).
The LdR is a single number average of sound levels measured over a 24-hour period with a
10 dBA penalty added to nighttime hours (10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.). The 10-dB penalty accounts
for the heightened sensitivity of a community to noise occurring at night. For example, a
50 dBA continuous sound level would be adjusted to 60 dBA.for nighttime hours. Thus when
averaged, the resulting 24-hour day-night average sound level(LdB) would be 56 dB.
=DLII MEMBER FIRM, NATIONAL COUNCIL OF ACOUSTICAL CONSULTANTS
