He commented that the standard of lining is being threatened
by traffic and safety concerns, as well as noise, water, and
light pollution.
He urged the Planning Board to support this proposed Article
that was originally written by then in order to rectify past
zoning mistakes and to bring the zoning By-laws into conformance
with the Comprehensive Plan. He stated this is the only
opportunity to do so, once a building is constructed it remains
permanent.
The opponents of change have a crested interest i
maintaining the current zoning which is completely and selfishly
money oriented. A windfall profit will be realized it the
current zoning remains in place.
In conclusion, Imo'. Benjamin asked for Planning Board support
in order to change the zoning By-laws.
Linda Pletcher, 28 Linden - Clarified that the Article
previously presented did not fail., but rather was indefinitely
postponed. She took offense to the use of words such as
"collusion".
She expressed her hope that the Planning Board has an astute
understanding of the proposed Article. The Article was very well
publicized two years ago. She spoke to Town Hall mishaps and
misplaced paperwork resulting in the inability to properly submit
and discuss the Article.
Her point being that this is not the first time this Article
has been presented; that the citizens of the Town were interested
in implementing the Comprehensive Plan two years ago. The future
of the Town has to begin at some point. The Planning Board, some
six to eight years ago were interested in planning the future of
the Town.
She made the point that the easiest way to defeat any zoning
article is to label it "too complicated" "too difficult". she
stated the Article being proposed is not complicated, it simply
has to be read. The Article is lengthy, precise, and correct.
Planning Board language was used in preparing the Article, the
Comprehensive Plan was voted long before the Southport project
was completed.
This proposal is the right thing for the Town, it should be
zoned residential in order to limit traffic and visibility. An
attempt is being made to cooperate between residents and
business.
She urged the Planning Board to include this proposal into
their vision for the Town, as was voted six to eight years ago.
