At this point. Herb Olsen commented the Commiss ion and the Town are not very far apart, there are only a few sections which prove to be problematical specifically p fically Coastal Resources. There': are issues of consistency in water Resources. He further u ther stated that overall, the Plan is a very, verygood Plan "" �' and that Mashpee •.; r, is not parroting the Regional Policy Plan. He suggested e s ., examining the issues of major concern at the moment from the �. • regional standpoint. The Town Planner agreed. The Town Planner suggested accepting what is in the R 'a3 eg i anal Policy Plan with regard to DRI, and review the remaining � ind ividual items. �lr iAi Dennis Balzarini made the point that several de : partments Town-wide were involved in � the development of this Plan, as well. , as public input, and their opinions should not be disregarded. The chairman requested the Commission state the areas of major disagreement. Margo Fenn stated the Land. Use section to be terrific as far 3 as Goals and Policies and to be the best Land Use section of any she has read. She stated it pulled all of Y p the elements of the 3 Plan together in a waythat i s coherent anlp d `'y d readable. She stated ,'•. concern with the area of Growth Capacity, specifically p Y• p y water and traffic. ' . • She stated all of the right strategies have been # outlined within the Land Use section with regard to controlling growth (land acquisitions, g � � ;: ... zoning changes, building permit limitations, etc. ) . She expressed concern for the target g t Population for the Town of 15, o o o, which is less than build, out =r.r� but nearly double the Towns resent population. `{ a p p p ,yti fr The Town. Planner clarified the resent population p p p to be 9,500 which would be a fifty-eight (5 8 W) percent increase. The ` Town Planner explained Mashpee would reach 15, 000 upon completion P of approved projects and available empty lots. He explained difficulties the , � P involved in trying to remain below that number. The , actual number of 15, o 0 o is based upon results of a public opinion survey. He also •'° ' b so stated that all zoning tools have essentially been depleted, # :S MS.
