Tom
Fudala stated a final summary version will be presented to Town
Meeting. Also, separate maps should be developed for people who
are not accustomed to reading the parcel map.
Bennett Gordon suggested introducing three area maps, to !~ :
coincide with a the suggested area division, if adopted.
Jim Hanks: Asked if another committee in needed in Mashpee.
Perhaps the National Resource Committee could encompass public
P
access. Town Counsel should be consulted. The Coastal Resources
Working Group is an ad hoc committee lending support to the Plan.
Near-term events should be eliminated, targeting a future date
in 1997. Regarding public access, unfair for taxpayers to pay
the full expense, users should help defray costs. Land
acquisitions mentioned in the 4-year plan seem inappropriate.
Tom Fudala responded this could be taken out of the Coastal ..
Resources Plan, as this is mentioned in the Open Space section.
Jim Hanks: No mention of action for Popponesset Spit. The -
issue of erosion should be addressed.
The Chairman inquired as how to best address issues on pages
3-41. There seem to be some issues that need to be resolved
between the Waterways Commission and the Comprehensive Plan as
presented. ,
Jim Hanks suggested Eric Smith go through the Plan, listing
all points of contention for discussion between them at another
meeting.
Board Members were in agreement, noting anything that is not
resolved is to come back before the Board.
4
The Chairman addressed the issue of accuracy of Shellfish
Maps.
Jim Hanks: The maps used in the Plan date back to 1990,
they should be updated. The shellfish situation changes
dynamically.
The Chairman recognized Richard York, Shellfish Constable, !
who stated the Shellfish Commission believes the maps should be
kept in the Plan, and defined as shellfish resource areas. They
include habitat and historical populations. The maps are very i
useful, they have been updated, and will continue to be
completely updated. They are useful for mooring fields, docks,
etc.
Tom Fudala agreed the maps should be continually updated and
the Plan is to be updated every five years.
-7-
11
I
J
ti.
