16 Great,'Afeck 2ZoadJVbrth
Nastepee, Y4assachusetts 02649
months ago she was insistent on hiring a host of consultants. Now that the town is engaged with a well-
known and well respected firm, she would like to tell them how to do their job.
Mr. Fulone acknowledged that the Planning Board hired experts, and would like to leverage their
expertise and experience. By deeming them flawed, inadequate, and biased is at best unhelpful, and
worst, a way to taint the process and the eventual outcome. Ms. Faulkner then repeats that the
residents do not want an urbanized Mashpee consisting of a Commercial Activity Center, but she can
only speak for herself. Chairman is excited to update the LCP and the upcoming process for communi
engagement. He encourages everyone to embrace this opportunity with a positive attitude and open
mind. He would invite everyone to share in the excitement, get engaged, and participate. I
TOWN PLANNER REP
LCP Update
Firstly, he would like to reiterate that the Local Comprehensive Plan is a community led process. It is
des I
Ained to facilitate a framework for enjaling the comm dabial —to P-hysir-ILPMWCOMMM", 9WA-1t,
natural, or otherwise. They are well on their way to designing a program that will achieve a positive
outcome from now until the next 5-10 years. Mr. Lehrer noted at the last meeting he would have
additional conversations with the Mashpee Public Schools and the Wampanoag Tribe. The school will
allow significant youth engagement to activate participation from all grade levels, Pre-K-12 th grade.
They provided age appropriate activities and he would like to give them the opportunity to scrutinize,
understand, and decide how they are able to implement. This work is designed for teachers but he
would make himself available along with some consultants. Again, he wanted to give the school an
opportunity to review and consider before he reviews with the Planning Board.
Mr. Fulone asked if this was intended for this school year or next.
Mr. Lehrer commented that the youth engagement will start in March and go through the end of the
year. Planning Board engagement will continue past theend of the school year. The school would like
to establish a student committee to work with him. This could be a way to get boots on the ground and
activate young people. He also met with the consultants and the Tribe. Tribal Chairman is committed to
supporting these engagements and is going to designate a liaison for communication. In the packet
there is an updated schedule and an outline of the engagement program in draft form.
Mr. Lehrer has been receiving comments, inclusive of Ms. Faulkner's letter. He did respond and she
wrote back. They have received constructive feedback. Certain members would like to see additional
conventional in -person workshops. The Community Engagement Action Plan is inclusive of five
workshops. There will be a kickoff meeting, then topical meetings, workshops based around natural
systems in RPP. Place types will need to be mapped prior. The RPP is structured in a manner where
community engagement can be facilitated around that. They could do five in person conventional
charrette type workshops. The big ticket items in the budget will require the presence of both Weston &
Sampson and Beta Group. If there is that interest for additional workshops, there will be two
consultants, himself, and Board Members available in consideration of the budget. Additionally, the
digital plafform for community engagement will be relied on heavily. Mr. Lehrer and the consultants
M
