Providing access to these resources <br /> Mashpee Public Library benefits individuals,and the community as a whole and <br /> range from foster parent support and information <br /> groups to substance use task force meetings. Job and <br /> To the Honorable Board of Selectmen and the career resource fairs and trainings are also sponsored <br /> Citizens of the Town of Mashpee: at the Library by government agencies,as well as our <br /> On behalf of the Library Staff and Board of own Town committees,and the Mashpee Chamber of <br /> Trustees, I am pleased to submit the 2017 Annual Commerce. <br /> Report. Connecting people within the community is <br /> quickly becoming a developing part of our mission and <br /> 2017 marked a year of change at the Library as the basis of how we serve our residents daily. In the <br /> we welcomed four new members to the Library's future we will continue to build and strengthen these <br /> Board of Trustees,and realigned positions and staffing partnerships through outreach and engagement. <br /> to ensure our ability to meet the needs of residents and <br /> patrons. Discussing our goals for the future prompted BUILDING COMMUNITY <br /> many questions.What skills and resources did we need Public libraries have traditionally provided <br /> to build understanding and engage with our unique and information, books and media, as well as offering <br /> diverse community of users? How could we better programs and organizing events, but are increasingly <br /> employ technology to create connections and called upon to respond to a broad spectrum of emerging <br /> collaborate more effectively with partners? Could we needs in our communities.Our meeting,program,and <br /> develop our collections and design programs to provide study rooms afford us the ability to stage concerts, <br /> opportunities for lifelong learning?What steps should screen films, host workshops and classes, and offer <br /> we take to remain responsive and relevant in a time of quiet rooms for research and study.We also make these <br /> shifting trends and demographics? And finally, how rooms available to community groups when they are <br /> can these objectives be managed and sustained over not being used for Library programs and initiatives. <br /> time?Two simple goals emerged: Connecting People. The popularity of this service reached a pinnacle during <br /> Building Community the past year with over 2000 individual or group <br /> CONNECTING PEOPLE reservations, and challenged us to reconcile the ever <br /> growing public demand with availability and capacity. <br /> Need help finding something new to read? <br /> Libraries are known for bringing together people and Environmentally conscious residents came <br /> books,but our role now includes connecting people to together and created community in monthly meetings <br /> resources,services,and other people! of the Mashpee Environmental Coalition and Friends <br /> Changes throughout our Town and region were of the Mashpee Wildlife Refuge.Creative types found <br /> on the forefront of local government during 2017. In inspiration in our weekly knitting group, the Twisted <br /> response, the Library hosted numerous community Stitchers, monthly adult coloring programs, or by <br /> forums to provide information and foster dialogue on joining our seasonal Holly Berry Quilters. Readers and <br /> issues such as the renovation of the Cape Cod writers met with their counterparts in book discussion, <br /> Technical School,the Cape Cod Commission's Route writing, and poetry groups such as the Steeple Street <br /> 28 Corridor Study,the Mashpee Commons expansion Poets. <br /> plans, and initiatives of the Cape Light Compact. <br /> Closer to home we provided meeting space for On a larger scale,we happily played our role as <br /> Mashpee homeowners groups,large and small,to share participant and offered a venue for Town-wide events <br /> and establish common goals for their respective by welcoming Muggles and Wizards for Harry Potter <br /> neighborhoods. For six weeks we served as the site for Day, and decorating our front yard as the site for the <br /> the Housing Assistance Corporation of Cape Cod to Chamber of Commerce's annual La Tavola festivities. <br /> offer grant funded classes to local officials pursuing <br /> affordable housing initiatives in their towns. In the coming year our goal is to collaborate on a <br /> more meaningful level with our already active <br /> Patrons seeking access to information related to community groups by co-sponsoring programs and <br /> health, wellness, and social services came to the increasing accessibility for all residents. <br /> 124 <br />
