There is a map key, purple is noted as priority. You can look up any town.
Some things would have to change, for example, some places would require new zoning. Some places
would need an exemption. It is looking at our land from a completely different point of view.
Mr. Lehrer considers the totality of parcels. Most of the town owned land is conservation restricted.
Areas pointed out are generally along Rt. 151 and Rt. 28, with plans for current or future sewer
infrastructure.
Ms. Waygan asked if the school property was on the map, KCC and Quashnet. She thinks the school
properties are wrong. The major takeaway is there are not a lot of priority level land.
Mr. Balzarini acknowledged the base would be a great source of housing for local towns.
Ms. Faulkner asked for a larger version of the map.
TOWN PLANNER REPORT
Update on Popponesset Overlay District
He is looking forward to a meeting with the Board of Health and Conservation to lay out issues in
Popponesset. The middle of June has been agreed upon. It will likely be at Town Hall, there was no
definitive date just a general agreement. The goal is to work with the staff to isolate issues and propose
solutions then discuss with the Board.
Floodplain Bylaw Amendments
He would like to have the article submitted in July for a Town Meeting vote in October. He has been
engaged with the CRS coordinator. She provided a copy of items needing to be addressed. He needs
to assess these items and build into a draft.
Cottage Court Zoning
He has continued to work on this and will be bringing a proposal to the Board at some point.
Willowbend does not believe this will work for them and they will not be proceeding with him in this
bylaw. However, he would still like to focus on this as an option. Right now, the immediate pressing
need is the amendment.
Mr. Fulone asked what would work for them.
Mr. Lehrer stated what they were proposing was not a Cottage Court. To provide the amount of
flexibility in a Cottage Court bylaw that will work for them and it would increase the footprint everywhere
else. It did not seem like the right tool for them. This is still a strategy we could consider, smaller
footprints for rent or ownership. More to come on this subject.
Mr. Balzarini inquired about the plot where that house was cleared.
