16 Great Neck Road Morth
Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649
Hall, phase one of a $1.5 Million renovation project completed in 1997. DPW director believes the
phase 2 and assessments for phase 2 were completed. The only expansion contemplated at the
present time are additional parking facilities in the rear or Town Hall. Since 1998, phase 3 additional
office space as needed at the rear was never constructed. The parking is currently an issue. DNR has
since moved out of the facility as well as Recreation. We are moving outwards as opposed to building
on additional improvements here. The DPW facility had an action of additional garage space within CIP,
to add space capacity of 8,000 s.f. where a portion of which will be heated. A space needs assessment
was completed, there was a 40x80 foot garage, strictly for small equipment storage and is not heated.
They wanted to identify a site to be used for material storage and develop the material storage site.
There are existing facilities and bins in storage that are inaccurate according to the DPW Director.
There is a lack of space for vehicle storage. There was an action defined to build an additional 1,600
s.f. bay into maintenance garage, no bay was ever constructed. Develop a storage yard and long term
storage area on the capped land fill site, there is now solar on the land fill site. Build a second phase of
garage expansion, never completed. The DPW facility is in a dire need of repairs. They have no
covered storage which is an issue for maintaining vehicles. The library had a bunch of steps and
actions built into it. In 1998 the library was nonexistent as we now know it, it was in a different facility.
After 1998 a new library was constructed to meet all needs of the 1998 plan. No renovations happened
to the other library, a new one was built on Steeple Street.
Mr. Hansen asked if the current library is 16,000 s.f. or bigger. If it is in the plan you would think they
would aim for that target.
Mr. Lehrer acknowledged that was not a question he asked but he will follow up. The next topic is the
archives. Conduct an archives building renovation study to assess the cost of renovation expansion
projects. There was a renovation to the archives building but he needs to obtain the date for that.
Undertake the construction of the facility following engineer design and identification of funding
sources. They assume funding sources and design plans were required to complete that work. Under
the discretion of Tribal Council, move the Ockway Chapel from its location at Meetinghouse onto
Collins lot. The Ockway Chapel is the one room school house, it moved twice. For the Wampanoag
Museum he reached out to David Weeden who provided a thorough response relative to the museum.
At the time the museum house was a municipally owned facility. It was given to the Tribe and put into
trust as part of their reservation. Mr. Weeded did note there was a needs assessment for the expansion
of display space. They are interested in expanding the existing parking facility. The current site is
relatively constrained and they may need a future land swap to facilitate that growth. There might be a
nearby town owned parcel where a land swap could be facilitated. He feels a lot of these actions were
not carried through. Mr. Weeden's number one focus right now is to enhance programming, enhance
display space, increase parking by way of land swap if there is adequate land area available. Similar to
the library, the Senior Center was about developing a needs assessments and creating certain
programming within that facility. The Senior Center at this time was the Kids Club and after 1998 the
new Senior Center was constructed.
Ms. Waygan commented that this was a chapter where a lot of things were accomplished.
01
