16 Great Neck Road North
.Mashpee, .Massachusetts 02649
Mr. Lehrer stated a lot of these make sense because of the capital improvements where the relative
department head is the one to submit the requests. When the roles and responsibilities are clearly
defined, things can happen. Next, the cemetery had a goal of clearing 5 acres of land, the parcel
located at Great Neck Road South where the new cemetery exists. Create a master plan of who will
design the project with associated costs. This cemetery was sited and phase one was built in 2011, and
they are currently starting plans for a phase two expansion. There was a goal of building a community
center to expand current recreation building. In 1998 he is unsure where the recreation building was.
Mary Bradbury is very interested in seeing a community center built here in Mashpee. There was a
needs assessment/ feasibility study done for a community center.
Ms. Waygan commented one thing they may want to look at, one of the very first votes she attended at
Town Meeting, the override for the Senior Center. There are other towns where their senior centers are
their community centers. It has priority for seniors during the day and other priorities as you get after
school and evening. It might be interesting in lieu of breaking ground on a new center, could we expand
on an existing building. She would like to know if their current funding would allow for this.
Ms. Faulkner asked if there was any land where the Senior Center could expand. They would use the
same space but at different times.
Ms. Waygan stated community centers are not used by children during the day because of school. It
could be intergenerational. Seniors don't stay out late, older people like to go out during the day. School
kids need things at night and on the weekends. It's a cost saving idea. Harwich Senior Center,
Community Center, and Housing Authority are all in one place. They segment certain times for different
groups. It's a really nice intergenerational concept. You have seniors coming in for their meals on
wheels and there is a childcare facility. The new Director of the Senior Center used to work for the
Recreation Department so maybe we could sell it.
Draft Survey
Ms. Waygan sent Mr. Lehrer a redline version, they went over it, some things stayed and some things
have not. It was a great conversation. If anyone has questions or comments on the survey and are
comfortable with Mr. Lehrer editing the survey based on their conversation. We can go through it page
by page now, but her big goal was to make it shorter.
Mr. Balzarini asked if this survey would be sent to the people. He would like to see it between 3-4
pages.
Mr. Lehrer stated he did want to discuss the issuance of the survey with the Board. They are
approaching the end of community engagement, but they still have two virtual workshops, the general
one and the one for parents of school aged children. He reached out to the schools to begin working on
that now. They need to amend their agreement with Weston & Sampson to capture additional services.
They have worked on a contract increase in $15,000, which they currently have the budget for.
