16 Great Neck Road Xorth
Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649
Ms. Waygan stated Mr. Lehrer will go over the bullet points for question three and make sure
everything is covered in the MPV report. She thought question four was too long and needed a lot of
work. She asked for Public Comment and recognized Lynne Barbee.
Lynne Barbee- For sustainability, she thinks they should add trees and forests. We have a lot of
protected forest land which is keeping our wildlife and air clean.
Mr. Lehrer commented if they are asking about sustainability issues, we provide air quality, if you are
concerned about air quality you are probably wanting to preserve tree and forest cover. He does not
think it needs to be spelled out more if air quality is the problem.
Ms. Waygan asked if trees and forests could be bumped into question four. A goal would be to provide
high quality park facilities. It may have a better home in four.
Mr. Lehrer thought they asked questions about preservation and habitat. He is putting trees and forests
on the back burner and finding another place to incorporate it.
Mr. Fulone commented if you are going to add it to question three, you have water quality, you would
add ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams, and it doesn't make sense.
Ms. Waygan noted Mr. Lehrer will continue to work on question four, is he okay with incorporating
question five into four?
Mr. Lehrer stated this was what he was getting at. It is an important question to ask, there was a
suggestion to merge with question three, but the critique of question three is it was already busy. If we
keep them separate it's a better way to approach it. He stated he could include something about
deforestation.
Ms. Waygan commented about question six, she would like to change it from people to areas instead. It
has to do with environmental justice and she knows they are trying to say in the community are you
seeing environmental justice in minority or low income that are vulnerable. In our town those vulnerable
areas are waterfront property. In the city, vulnerable areas are poor. She switched it to areas. She
thinks people are going to acknowledge they see flooding in their roads.
Mr. Lehrer stated he had very limited feedback from here on out.
Ms. Waygan noted they compressed things and removed duplicates, bias, and missed topics. She
stated the ancient ways are in there. They wanted a question about the Tribe, so on page 18 she wrote,
"The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council and the Mashpee Select Board have recently reconvened
regular meetings. What do you hope to see result from these meetings? Are there any matters you
want to see discussed at these meetings?" It will generate a nice open response. When you get to
10
