'wawaraup"'a
16 Great Neck Road Worth
Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649
Ms. Faulkner commented under emerging issues, they should include the new homeowner survey
questions from the CCC. This may be the future, people who are moving here, the demographics are
clear it is older people and we are losing the school population.
Mr. Lehrer stated if that data is already available he does not understand the value in asking again.
Ms. Waygan brought the Boards attention to a question everyone liked, about why did you come here.
They had something like that in the previous survey. She hasn't read this matrix in full, but we do want
to ask what drew people to Mashpee, what keeps people in Mashpee. Is it the connection with an
ancestral homeland, family, schools, or nature? We would modify that because we want to
acknowledge that some people's families have been here for thousands of years.
Ms. Faulkner alluded to that survey saying just that, many people owned land and they are legacy
people, 25 years or more, a large number.
Ms. Waygan identified question 39, factors in deciding to purchase, as a major question. It would be
factors of living here.
Mr. Lehrer would like to caution against taking valuable survey real estate for questions that get at data
that is already available to us. When going through we asked ourselves is this question asking for an
answer or does the data already exist elsewhere. If that answer was yes, we removed it from this
survey.
Ms. Faulkner stated this is about people who just moved here, new homeowners.
Ms. Waygan stated that question should definitely be in there.
Mr. Balzarini thinks the survey is long. He would like to break it down to 15 questions taking each
subject and combine it. This survey people will put aside due to length. They are important questions,
but one answer.
Mr. Lehrer does not disagree, this is taken from the direction of the Board. He feels every question
there adds substantive value and will provide good data, he doesn't think there is an issue in
consolidating. He thinks there is a benefit to reducing the amount of time it will take people to complete
the survey.
Ms. Waygan answered Mr. Balzarini by stating this is just the first round, and this has every single item
that was discussed. She went on to ask Ms. Sweet how many email addresses are on the contact list.
She referenced the new round of emails collected from the June workshop and inquired if those were
added to the list.
10
