Mashpee Middle/High School continues to work to <br />support students to be successful in high school while <br />educating them on the college and career process. <br />Mashpee Middle/High School graduated 103 students <br />in 2019. MMHS seniors were very competitive as <br />they pursued admission to 180 colleges or <br />universities, and many applied for scholarships. <br />Academic achievement and rigor continued to be a <br />focal point of our work at MMHS. Teachers, <br />Administrators and staff have worked diligently to <br />implement a Multi -Tiered System of Supports <br />(MTSS) to help provide targeted and intensified <br />instruction to support and foster student success. As a <br />result of this hard work by our teachers and staff, <br />MMHS has continued to improve outcomes for all <br />students. This is highlighted by the strong <br />performance by our students on the annual MCAS <br />assessment. To access the complete Mashpee <br />Middle/High School Report Card, please visit our <br />website at www,mpspkl2.org. <br />In addition, MMHS continues to offer a wide variety <br />of academic programs to provide a comprehensive <br />experience for our students. MMHS offers 15 <br />Advanced Placement Courses in addition to a full <br />slate of fine art and music programming as well as <br />many other unique programs through our Career and <br />Technical Education Programs. Another highlight <br />was the expansion of our Wopanaak (Wampanoag <br />Language) program from level I to levels II and III. <br />These new courses were added to our World Language <br />Curriculum. In partnership with the Mashpee <br />Wopanaak Language Reclamation Project and <br />Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, MMHS became the first <br />public high school in Massachusetts, and one of the <br />first in the nation to offer an indigenous language as <br />part of the curriculum. The course is taught by tribal <br />language scholars Melanie Roderick and Nitana Hicks <br />Greendeer. MMHS continues to grow its innovative <br />programming for students. <br />MMHS is also proud to announce our designation as <br />an Innovation Pathway School. MMHS was one of 17 <br />schools to receive this honor and our pathway is based <br />upon Advanced Manufacturing. This is a three-year <br />grant that will provide students with dual enrollment <br />opportunities as well as real -world experience through <br />internships in the field. MMHS also received a Skills <br />Capital Grant in the total of $250,000 to purchase <br />equipment and to provide resources and supports for <br />students who enroll in the Pathway. <br />Our MMHS students once again impressed with their <br />countless efforts to support our school and <br />community. Students participated in several <br />fundraisers, volunteered throughout the community to <br />support those in need and completed Capstone <br />Projects through our Senior Seminar course. Our <br />School -to Career students participated in internships <br />throughout the community in a number of professions <br />including engineering, public service, medicine, <br />business, and civics. We also had several students <br />engage in global projects highlighted by Mrs. Celeste <br />Reynolds and her A.P. Human Geography students as <br />they hosted a "Long Walk for Water" fundraiser to <br />raise funds to build a well in South Sudan. Our <br />talented artists, singers and musicians performed <br />throughout the community and at several events. <br />In addition to academia, MMHS students excelled in <br />the areas of co -curricular activities and athletics. The <br />Blue Falcon Theater Company performed its Spring <br />musical, The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee, to a <br />full house in the audience. The HOSA (Health <br />Occupation Students of America) club worked to <br />provide important information to students regarding <br />health and wellness and worked with local medical <br />professionals and hospitals to provide real -world <br />experiences. The Key club and Builders Club <br />provided much needed support and resources to <br />families in need throughout the community. MMHS <br />clubs provide a great experience for our school and we <br />are proud to provide them at no cost to our students <br />and families. <br />Mashpee Middle High School sports teams had <br />another tremendous 2018-2019 competing in the <br />ultra -competitive South Shore League. The golf team <br />won the South Shore League (SSL) overall title, with <br />Colin Spencer winning the SSL individual title and <br />Kyle Puchol finishing in second place. Golf would <br />later go on to finish fourth at the Division III <br />South/Cape Cod sectional. Varsity football was <br />ranked as high as 9th in the state and had a 28-game <br />winning streak snapped in the playoffs. That winning <br />streak was the longest in the State of Massachusetts <br />spanning a six year stretch that at the time was the <br />22nd longest winning streak in the country. Boys <br />soccer finished the regular season with a record of 14- <br />3-1, their second-best record in the history of the <br />program. Girls soccer qualified for the MIAA <br />tournament for the first time in five years winning <br />their first playoff game in 13 years under first year <br />coach and Mashpee alum, Julienne McCuish. <br />174 <br />
