6 Great Neck Road North <br /> as tepee, MA 02649 <br /> Minutes of Meeting----July 6, 2023 <br /> Mashpee Historical Commission Meeting was called to order by Ava Costello at 4:09 <br /> pm. <br /> Commissioners Present. Ave Costello, Brian Hyde, Richard DeSorgher, Nancy <br /> Soderberg; Rosemary Burns Love and Jean Tavares-Avant telephoned in, We had a <br /> guest, Lennie Pocknett from the Mashipee, who is interested in joining the Mashpee <br /> Historical Commission, He has submitted his intentions to the Board of Selectmen by <br /> email. <br /> Brian Hyde moved that Minutes for our June 8, 2028 meeting be approved as presented, <br /> The motion was seconded by Rosemary, and approved unanimously, <br /> Brian Hyde mentioned that the Select Board will give us the name/s of people who have <br /> applied for our Commission, and we will notify them that we approve. Lennie Pocknett <br /> said he would give us a copy of his email he submitted to the BOS for our records. He <br /> gave us a brief presentation about his life as he has lived most of it Mashpee so he has <br /> a great deal of local knowledge, He also told us about his time in the armed services. He <br /> enlisted in the US Army in 1963 and was assigned to working with missile systems in <br /> Italy. <br /> Rosemary is researching Ancient Cemeteries and will present her research in writing at <br /> a future time. She talked about the *Cooms and Williams families who owned land, and <br /> they had some common land between their lots that they knew was a burial ground. <br /> Richard reported on the Monument Ceremony which he felt came off very nicely. We all <br /> agreed. It was the culmination of four years of his research and several other projects <br /> related to completing the project: certifying the names of the veterans serving during <br /> wartime, design of the monument, ordering it from Vermont, engraving it in Falmouth, <br /> MA, and the delivery and installation to complete the project. He said that he was most <br /> appreciative of Catherine Laurent, Director of the DPW„ and her team for all the work <br /> they put into improvements to the gazebo, walkways„ and the area surrounding! the <br /> Monument look professionally cared for. He menitioned that Catherine will adjust the <br /> lighting on the front of the monument. Ava had prints made up of Karen Rinald'o's <br /> artwork, and she and Richard framed them as gifts for the participants in the ceremony. <br /> Mashpee River Signs <br /> Richard reported that he had several meetings with Town officials and with Signarama of <br /> South Yarmouth, and then he had the signs for the Mashpee River made up.
