-2-
The Open House went very well too. Ava said that everyone loved the idea of
displaying photos of the Faces of Mashpee. We had 40 people attending inside the
Archives, and 38 people who toured the Mashpee One-Room Schoolhouse. Richard
said the Schoolhouse is officially closed for the year. Richard mentioned that he would
have an additional group from the Tech School in Brewster touring the schoolhouse on
November 7tn
Ava mentioned that we plan to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day again next year as
people expressed how much they liked coming to the Archives. Joan thinks we should
adjust the dates because there are several other Indigenous Peoples Day events going
on at the same time.
Richard mentioned he would be working on our next war memorial which would cover
all those who served during all the Persian Gulf Wars, 1991-2022. He will need to form
a new committee made up of those who had served during that period. He plans to put
an article in the Mashpee Enterprise to inform and find veterans who may have an
interest in being involved with this project.
Richard mentioned contacting Baker Monument again which is going to work on the
restoration of the stones in the Bourne cemetery.
Ava asked for information about what other Committees she should contact regarding
her Signage project which she has been working on for a long time. She will meet with
the Town Manager to get suggestions on other committees in the town which would
probably like to have an input on the final project. Rosemary suggested that the
Historical Commission should review the project initially, and Ava agreed. We
discussed placement of the signs, and Ava will be working with Catherine on that. Ava
said she wanted the signs to represent a sense of community; Rosemary felt that we
should go back to the original owners. Ava said the next step would be to use a QR
code on the sign which would lead the viewer to the more complete history. The signs
will be quite small and will not be able to contain the entire history of the properties.
Richard brought up that roadwork has been proposed for this area, so we would need to
get some definition about that before we decide where to place the signs.
The next meeting will be November 16tn
Richard made a motion that the meeting be adjourned, and it was seconded by Nancy
at 6:05pm.
Respectfully submitted
Ann Graham, Sr. Clerk
