UHI updated the community on the recent public outreach event. Kristen mentioned that the <br /> highlights of the event included water quality,lost access areas,impacts seen to shellfish areas <br /> and natural resources.One member mentioned that undersized shellfish harvesting is a frequent <br /> issue, stressing that proper enforcement is needed to ensure resource sustainability. <br /> Planning Area: What does the planning area mean to the Tribe? : "Land is Sacred". This phase <br /> needs to be included in our plan, the plan should stress the need to protect our Natural <br /> Resources. <br /> Climate Change:The Tribe feels as though people should not be interfering with the natural <br /> processes of our shoreline. Examples of these interferences include dredging,beach <br /> nourishmentpractices, and filling in the wetlands. Altering the environment in the area is not <br /> considered a recommended practice that the Wampanoag People area supportive of. <br /> Kristen noted it may be difficult to incorporated both hardscaping and natural restoration in our <br /> plan and gain Tribal Council support.Dale Oakley felt that a happy medium is probably the best <br /> way to go in drafting the plan. <br /> Dale felt that the event went very well.He was happy to see Tribal elders share their input, and <br /> that their input will be incorporated in the plan. <br /> ADDITIONAL TOPICS <br /> There being nothing else,the Committee adopted a Motion to Adjourn.
