(5� 5) 15,39-1 3 <br /> MASHPEE HISTORICAL COMISSION <br /> Minutes of Meeting —October 17, 2024 <br /> Mashpee Historical Commission meeting was called to order by Ava at 4:13 pm. <br /> CommissionersPresent: Ava Costello, Richard DeSorgher, Brian Hyde, Lenny <br /> Pockneft, and Nancyo erer . Rosemary Burns Love and Joan Tavares-Avant were <br /> not available. AndrewMcManus, Conservation Commissioner, Gail Hendricks-Hill, <br /> Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, and J. Marie Stevenson, Mashpee Inclusion and Diversity <br /> CommitteeI attended. <br /> Gail Hendricks-Hill informed us of aday-long seminar called Garden of Memories, <br /> which of e held at the Tribal Headquarters on October 26t" demonstrating archival <br /> services s , Boston has to offer to scan materials which members of the tribe <br /> will be bringingin. She mentionedthat some of the UMass scanning equipment col <br /> be broughtinto the Town Archives so that the tribe would be able to scan materials o <br /> site. Richardmotion that we share our Archival materials with the Tribe, with <br /> the understandingthat they would be willing to reciprocate. The motion was seconded <br /> by Lenny Pockneft, n voted unanimously. <br /> Drew McManusinformed us that he was here to talk about the details re the Chop <br /> Chaque Bog arear which they received Army Corps funds to restore the bog back o <br /> wetlands. r since the project began they have been planning to keep the sortie <br /> barn. They have decided to destroy the pump house, and that has been approved. <br /> They ill be workingwith Horsley & Witten which provides engineering and environ- <br /> mental management services. They will be using another company who will bring in the <br /> 6quipment to movesand, peat, and other soil materials. Some of it will be used t <br /> backfill the burrowits for the nesting habitat of the box turtles, and they will do this <br /> work during timesn the turtles are not nesting. The committee has worked hard <br /> preventi the sorting barn, but the barn is in a rather remote area andthe <br /> possibilityof morevandalism still exists. The bog pump house is slated to be <br /> demolished removed. discussed how returning the area tonatural el n s <br /> shouldI improve the water quality of Santuit Pond. Brian Hyde commented that <br /> the Town owns the buildings, but The Native Land Conservancy has a conservation <br /> restriction on the property. Ava stated that she is hoping to move the barn to the <br /> previous site of the Attaquin Hotel. She would like to work on creating museum r <br /> Welcome/informationcenter with the building. <br /> Andrewi t he felt that the Conservation Commission would be in favor of <br /> relocating the bar o an areaher it could be more protected and used for historic <br />
