-2-
Ava has signed up with the Digital Commonwealth. She plans to attend a seminar and
find out about their free services that we might be able to use.
She talked about our annual Historical Preservation award that is going to be presented
to Deb Kaye, Mashpee Town Clerk, for her interest and efforts to digitize town records.
The ceremony will be held on October 10tn, at 4:30pm. We are planning to have our
Open Houses to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day on October 7tn 9tn and 10tn from
10:OOam-2:OOpm. The schoolhouse and Archives will be open on the holiday, Monday,
October 14tn
Richard reported on the 250tn Anniversary of the American Revolutionary War: He has
spoken with Brian Brody, a teacher at MMHS who is leading a social studies honor
group, and he also has a student named Ayesha Shafi, an honor student, who would
like to work on the research of the 15 Mashpee soldiers who died in that war. Both he
and Ava will meet with David Weeden to get his input and ideas as to what the Tribe
would be contributing to this celebration.
Richard reported that we have the necessary funding to cover the expenses of having
38 veterans banners made up and purchasing the hardware to have them installed.
The;new War Memorial Subcommittee: Judith Scofield and Cyndy Jones have
expressed an interest to work on this new project. The research would be the hard part,
and Richard would be willing to do that part of the project. He will work in conjunction
with Greg Quilty, the Armed Services Resource Officer, who helped him on the prior
War Memorial. On the most recent monument we used the criteria of any person who
was in the military and had enlisted from Mashpee. The Memorial will include names
from the Dessert Storm through the war in Afghanistan. Richard requested that we get
a subscription to Ancestry.com to do the research on the names to be included.
Richard plans to replace a few worn out flags, and he would like to get some profess-
sional posters for the schoolhouse; we agreed that he should spend the funds to get
these done. He also thought we need to get a first aid kit to have on hand to cover any
minor medical needs. In addition, he wants to have a few more of our historical photos
reframed. He will take them to J.Miller as he has done some others for us. Ava will
order a copy of a new book about Dorothy Carter and other American women at war. In
addition, we will purchase a few more library boxes to store Mashpee Enterprise.
Next Meeting Date will be Thursday, June 27tn.
Richard made a motion to adjourn the meeting; it was seconded by Ava, at 6:15pm.
_..._"
a
e,
Respectfully submitted
Ann Graham, Sr. Clerk
