0Y yy r W o
peew aw
16 Great Neck Road Ire
ki RIM Telephone
MASHPEE HISTORICAL COMISSION
Minutes of Meeting August 1, 2024
Mashpee Historical Commission meeting was called to order by Ava at 4:07 pm.
Commissioners Present: Ava Costello, Richard DeSorgher, Lenny Pocknett, and Nancy
Soderberg. Rosemary Burns Love and Joan Tavares-Avant telephoned in. Brian Hyde,
was not present.
The Minutes were approved unanimously for our last meeting on June 27tn
Veterans' Banner Project - Richard informed us that the hardware has been installed on
the light poles in the Community Park, and all the 38 banners had been hung up by
Scott :T!ia of the DPW. All preparations had been done far the ceremony to be held on
Saturday, August 3rd. Hopefully we will continue the program next year.
Ancient Burial Grounds — Richard updated us on the work that is being done on the
Attaquin Cemetery and a few of the other ancient cemeteries.
One-room Schoolhouse — Presently it is open for tours, Mondays, Wednesdays, and
Thursdays from 10:00am - 1:00pm. Pedro Carrasquillo is the docent on Mondays,
Richard covers on Wednesday, and Nancy volunteers on Thursdays. Ayesha Shafi, our
summer intern, has been observing on Thursdays.
Ava reviewed with us the Historic Preservation section of the LCP in detail. We spent
time going through the items and commenting on proposed changes and further actions
the Historical Commission should take regarding historic preservation of old buildings
prior to them being razed and reconstructed. Most of the fifteen Cape Cod towns have
a law in their By Laws regarding this situation. Ava will speak to the Building
Department about what we need to do to propose a Warrant Article.
We set the next meeting date at September 5t" at 4:00pm.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was proposed at 6:15 pm by Richard DeSorgher and
seconded by Nancy Soderberg.
Respectfully submitted
Ann Graham, Sr. Clerk
