3) What should be the role of the Human Services Coordinator – is it as is currently stated in Gail Wilson’s Mission Statement, or should it be something more, or less. Mary Scanlan commented that it is difficult to find in one person skills with one-on-one counseling, as well as community coordination. These two skill requirements are included in the Coordinator’s current job description. The Committee members agreed that the most important thing that should come out of the study is to identify the most critical needs of the community. John Cahalane recommended that the RFP sub-committee make an appointment with Joyce Mason to request guidance as to how to write the RFP to incorporate the committee’s needs and concerns. Human Services Contracts. Ruth Elias stated that all the Human Services contracts to vendors were exactly the same, and that they had been revised and mailed out for renewal for the coming year. Veronica Warden questioned whether Town Counsel had reviewed the contracts before being sent out. Ruth Elias will follow up with Gail Wilson to determine whether the contracts were reviewed by Town Counsel. Ms. Warden suggested that the contracts should be reviewed by Town Counsel as they are received by return mail. Veronica Warden voiced her feeling that the Committee, if identified by the survey with a large number of needs in the community, should not become overwhelmed with responsibility all at once, but should start slowly. Coordinator Gail Wilson is only one person. Jim Long replied that the Committee is looking for a roadmap to be provided by the survey, to be followed one step at a time. Grant Money John Cahalane suggested that the Committee investigate the availability of grant money, several of which are available on the Cape. Lynne Waterman Comments re: Assessment Across the Age Spectrum of Town Residents Ruth Elias questioned the assessment of coverage across the age spectrum. The committee agreed that there are now extended families within one residence, and we are dealing with two to three generations in one household. NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Human Services Committee was scheduled for Thursday, July 19, 2012, at 2:00 PM. Request for agenda items will be sent from the Board Secretary to all committee members in advance of the meeting. Agenda is due 48 hours in advance of the meeting date.
