MINUTES August 19, 1993 7 BOARD OF HEALTH <br /> Acknowledged. <br /> *****OLD BUSINESS***** <br /> Briarwood water hook-up <br /> Mr. Ball informed Board members, "I requested the As- <br /> sociation President of Briarwood to submit a letter on behalf <br /> of the residents who still maintain their private wells to <br /> explain their reasons for not making application to the Water <br /> District. " <br /> Acknowledged. <br /> *****NEW BUSINESS***** <br /> Emergency Repair - 46 Somerset Road <br /> Mr. Evans relayed, "I inspected the site and found the <br /> leach pit full. " <br /> Board members forwarded their signatures to the "Emer- <br /> gency Repair Certification" form. <br /> John's Pond - News media questioning qualityof Fish <br /> Mr. Doherty stated, "I have received telephone calls <br /> from the news media questioning the quality of the fish in <br /> John's Pond. " "I did relay the Board has not taken a posi- <br /> tion on the matter. " <br /> Mr. Greelish commented, "The ranking professionals are <br /> of the opinion the fish are safe for consumption. " <br /> Mr. Ball recommended the Board take a position support- <br /> ing the scientists opinion. <br /> Mr. Greelish commented, "This Board is not required to <br /> render a decision." "We should explain that the opinions by <br /> local scientists are that the fish are safe for consumption. " <br /> "Until we have evidence otherwise that there is a public <br /> health threat than we will support the scientists conclu- <br /> sions." <br /> Mr. Doherty stated, "There is nothing here that would <br /> prompt us to come to any other conclusions' other than the <br /> fact that tumors were found." <br /> Mr. Greelish commented, "We don't know if they are any , , <br /> better or any worse than any other pond. " <br />
