• �o�t� of �.a���p�t <br /> !.�'"^ • ems BOARD OF HEALTH <br /> 16 GREAT NECK ROAD NORTH <br /> A ; = MASHPEE,MA 02649 <br /> y (508)539-1418 <br /> � E Fax (508)477-7380 <br /> REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE INSTALLATION AND USE OF DUAL <br /> BLACK/GREY WATER SEPTIC SYSTEMS <br /> FOR SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCES. <br /> The Mashpee Board of Health, pursuant to the authority con- <br /> ferred under Section 31 of Chapter 111 of the Massachusetts <br /> General Laws and in recognition of the environmental advan- <br /> tage of certain alternative/innovative septic system tech- <br /> nologies, hereby adopts the following regulations: <br /> DEFINITIONS: <br /> Blackwater: Wastewater from toilets, urinals and any drains <br /> equipped with garbage grinders. <br /> greywater: Any putrescible wastewater discharged from domes- <br /> tic activities including but not limited to washing ma- <br /> chines, sinks, showers, bath tubs, dishwashers or other <br /> source except toilets, urinals and any drains equipped with <br /> garbage grinders. <br /> REGULATIONS: <br /> 1. The Board of Health hereby approves the use of compost- <br /> ing toilets for the collection and disposal of blackwater <br /> with the following conditions: <br /> a. The composting compartment must be inspected <br /> annually by a Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) <br /> approved inspector of composting systems. A copy of the in- <br /> spection report shall be submitted to the Board of Health <br /> within 30 days of the inspection. <br /> b. The composted material shall be removed at in- <br /> tervals according to the manufacturer's specifications. The <br /> compost shall be transported by a DEP approved hauler AND <br /> disposed of at a DEP approved location. <br /> 2. In recognition of the fact that the majority of patho- <br /> genic organisms are found in blackwater, while some still <br /> exist in greywater, the Board of Health approves the follow- <br /> ing greywater discharge systems and conditions: <br /> a. The filtered greywater may be discharged inter- <br /> nally into a DEP and Board of Health approved greenhouse ab- <br /> sorption system OR <br /> PRZI NTEt? ON RECY0LEG � kFOER <br />
