MINUTES October 26, 1995 4 BOARD OF HEALTH
solvents approaching 2600 ppb and a little over that in one spot." "In monitoring well 458
we reached a maximum of about 640 ppb of TCE at a depth of about -155 at mean sea
level." "We went further east - monitoring well #59 at a depth of -130, the maximum
concentration we got was about 73 ppb of TCE." "We have permission now to drill down
further on Lakeview Drive which will begin tomorrow." "We plan on moving back off of
Horseshoe Bend Way." "There is approximately 100' of clean water between the bottom
of Ashumet Pond right now and where we have delineated the contamination."
Mr. Doherty questioned, "Do you have any idea how the hydrology of the pond is
going to affect it?"
Mr. Minior responded, "That is something odr modeler's are working on." "We
worked first with USGS got their model and we're refining that." "We're going in and
putting that information in to see if there is any upwelling into the pond, where we might
expect, and whether it's in a deep spot." "There is an area on the northeast side where the
deep side is and we're looking at that as part of our computer model." "Depending how
60 & 61 come out, of course we're going to haveto go further to the west because we
haven't fully delineated it that way and depending on what we find near the pond's edge,
we'll have to make a determination whether we try to drill in the pond, which is a
possibility, or at least on the other side of the pond, given the flow paths that the computer
models are showing us as to where we might expect to find something."
Mr. Ball questioned whether they took any recent soil samples out of the pond.
Mr. Minor responded, "There have been some sediment samples taken within the
last two years." "Little if anything is being found because there is very little sediment
there." "We're having a difficult time getting representative samples from the bottom of
the pond although we have tried."
Mr. Doherty questioned, "How many residents in the area have private wells?"
Mr. McQuaid responded, "9 or 10 homes in the Horseshoe Bend/Tritown Circle
area.,'
Mr. Minior stated, "We have already gone out and sampled those homes." "They
came back clear.." "We provided this Board with the results."
Mr. Doherty questioned, "Are there any plans to connect them to town water."
