Harwich- 139,000

It takes a lot for the Mashpee Public Library to run between energy, staff, and money. Osterville
and Hyannis are under 50,000. Some of these libraries are open later but don’t serve the
clientele. We are big and busy and have been here for 14 years, and nobody predicted the
demand that would come. Sandwich isn’t open Mondays, and they are one level. These staff
are juggling a lot of workloads here.

With the budget wrapping up we were so lucky last year to get the staffing positions because
this year it would not have happened. A lot of staffing positions were requested that didn’t make
it. The need is wastewater. Accounting has so many grants on the books right now.

The Anti-Discrimination Policy was sent around for Board members to sign.

Copies of the Bulletin Board and Literature Display Policy were previously sent. Ms. Mahoney
asks those be thought about for next time. She wants to take the procedure part out. The Study
Room use was written a long time ago and it has changed into something different. She has
been working on the latest draft for the Tutoring Policy. She would like to find out from staff on
the second floor how to make the policy better and what goes on in the study rooms. The
Library Sponsorship Policy has not been reviewed in a long time.

A report was sent about Eastham and accessibility. The Assistant Library Director delved into
this area. There is a lot to think on here, with the meeting rooms, microphones, assistive
hearing aids, and whatever else we can do. We are setting up a subcommittee to start looking
at this. There are hooks on the back of bathroom doors, to be built to compliance 14 years ago.

FRIENDS OF LIBRARY LIASON REPORT
th
Ms. Macdonald is the new liaison. They are planning mini golf on Thursday, April 18 from
11:00a.m.-3/4:00p.m. They still need to get some sponsors as they lost a couple. For the extra
fifth hour it would cost $100 extra dollars. The Friends haven’t met this year yet, but there is a
meeting via Zoom next week. She will have a more thorough update next time.

TRUSTEE ADVOCACY
Trustees are scheduled to speak at Southport for their A Day in the Life series. Rodney Collins,
a Sherrif, and a representative from Cotuit Center for the Arts will be speaking. Ms. Macdonald
and Ms. Lyons will attend. It is being held in the Sports Lounge and the capacity is around 50
people. It is on May 6, 2024, from 11:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. There will be a Q and A after.

ADJOURNMENT
MOTION:
5
