07
„ Town Of Mashpee Historic District Commission
16 Great Neck Road North
trhflntUv+'Mhs
Mashpee, MA 02649
Chairman Hyde then opened the discussion of vacancies on the Historic District Commission and
reviewed that there were a total of five vacancies and reminded the Commissioners that Mr. Gibbons
and Ms. Loyko who were interviewed in prior months hadn't proceeded through the process due to the
Select Board's change in process as it relates to vacancies. As such, after today's interviews the
Commissioners would need to complete the appropriate evaluation forms for each candidate and the
completed forms would be submitted to the Select Board where a final interview would be requested.
The Commissioners then began their interview with the interested applicant, Richard DeSorgher. Mr.
DeSorgher introduced himself and provided his background and passion for history including his desire
to preserve and protect Mashpee's history. The next applicant, Ava Costello, reiterated some of the
same sentiments as Mr. DeSorgher and further stated her current role as hair of the Historical
Commission and with her education and history passion she believes that the two commissions are
"hand and glove" and that she's dedicated to the history of Mashpee. Having no further questions by
the Commissioners of the two applicants, Chairman Hyde sought motion to highly recommend both Mr.
DeSorgher and Ms. Costello. Before closing the applicant interviews, the Community Development
Director suggested that the Commissioners switch the membership between Mr. Gibbons and Ms.
Paxton, should Mr. Gibbons be approved by the Select Board given his architectural background.
MOTION: Mr. Balzarini made the motion as noted above. Ms. Paxton seconded. All in favor.
Chairman Hyde asked if there was anything else needing to be discussed. Karyn Leslie reminded the
Commission that the evaluation forms would need to be completed prior to leaving the building and
that the completed forms would be shared with the Select Board and the Select Board would likely
request their own interviews prior to filling any vacancies.
ADJOURNMENT
MOTION: Mr. Balzarini made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Ms. Paxton seconded. All in favor. The
meeting adjourned at 10:47 am.
Respectfully Submitted:
Karyn Leslie
Administrative Assistant
LIST OF DOCUMENTS:
• Application for Certificate of Appropriateness for 474 Main Street
• Meeting Minutes July 27, 2023
• Letter of Interest Richard DeSorgher
• Letter of Interest Ava Costello
• Current membership status as of April 2, 2024
3
