5 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> April 14, 2008 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Brad Tripp-Pesticide& Herbicide Use at Schools: <br /> Brad Tripp, Facilities Manager of the Mashpee Public Schools was in <br /> attendance to request the Selectmen grant approval of the use of pesticides <br /> and herbicides on school grounds outdoors. Under State statute, written <br /> approval is necessary from the Chief Elected Municipal Body. <br /> Mr. Tripp indicated that he intends to apply pesticide and herbicide <br /> treatments around the school buildings. Authorization is not required to <br /> apply treatments to the athletic fields. Mr. Tripp indicated that he is not <br /> aware of the Town's policy regarding the use of 100%organic materials, <br /> but would consider the use of organic at a 50/50 ratio given the high cost <br /> of organic treatments and budgetary constraints. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Myers to grant written approval to the <br /> Mashpee School Department for the use of pesticides and herbicides <br /> on school grounds other than athletic fields. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Myers to request Brad Tripp consult with <br /> the Director of Public Works with regards to the Town's pesticide and <br /> herbicide programs, and when possible to use organic treatments on <br /> the school grounds. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Recommendation for Appointment—Waterways Commission: <br /> Correspondence was received from the Waterways Commission dated <br /> February 5,2008 recommending the appointment of Kenneth Bates to fill <br /> the vacant position. A letter of interest was received from Mr. Bates dated <br /> January 10, 2008 to serve as a Waterways Commission member. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to appoint Kenneth Bates of <br /> Mashpee to the Waterways Commission. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. <br />
