3 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> December 1, 2008 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Mashpee Sports Certificate Presentation: <br /> Michael Horne, the Athletic Director introduced the captains and coaches <br /> of the Mashpee High School fall athletic teams to the Board of Selectmen. <br /> Recognition was given to the Boys Cross Country Team, 2008 champions, <br /> the Boys Soccer Team, winners of the Cape & Islands Sportsmanship <br /> Award, and the MHS Football Team, acknowledged for their successful <br /> season and their fourth straight win against the Cape Cod Technical <br /> School on Thanksgiving. <br /> The MHS cheerleaders were also recognized for receiving the <br /> Sportsmanship award as winners in the South Shore League and the girl's <br /> field hockey team for their achievements making their league tournament <br /> for eight straight years. The girl's soccer also won the MIAA District C <br /> Sportsmanship award and the golf team was also recognized for their <br /> continued success making the MIAA tournament for ten consecutive <br /> seasons. <br /> Certificates of appreciation were presented to the coaches and the athletes <br /> on behalf of the Board of Selectmen. <br /> Superintendent of Schools--Update,. <br /> Ann Bradshaw, Superintendent of Schools gave an overview of recent <br /> honors and awards, co-curricular activities and academic achievements in <br /> the Mashpee Public Schools. <br /> Ms. Bradshaw indicated that enrollment has decreased by 72 students. In <br /> 2008 there are 1857 students enrolled district-wide compared to a <br /> collective enrollment of 1935 students last year. The decrease in <br /> enrollment is attributed to school choice and residency issues. It was <br /> noted that special education enrollment has also decreased by 40 students. <br /> In 2007,there were 329 special education students enrolled. Presently <br /> there are 289 special education students district-wide. In an effort to <br /> increase enrollment, Ms. Bradshaw indicated she would like to expand the <br /> pre-school enrollment. <br />
