I <br /> 3 ' <br /> 2 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> June 19, 2006 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Police Chief—Speed Limit Jobs Fishing: <br /> Rodney Collins, Chief of Police appeared before the Board to seek the <br /> Selectmen's approval to reduce the speed limit on Jobs Fishing Road. <br /> Chief Collins recommended the 30 mph speed limit be reduced to 25 mph. <br /> Under MGL, Chapter 90, Section 18,the Board of Selectmen have the <br /> authority to adopt speed regulations and post applicable signage. <br /> Correspondence was received from Douglas Storrs,Mashpee Commons <br /> Limited Partnership dated June 15,2006 recommending the endorsement <br /> of the 25 mph speed limit. It was also noted that a petition was received <br /> from the area senior citizens requesting reduced speed limits <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to accept the recommendation <br /> of the Police Chief to set the speed limit of Jobs Fishing Road to 25 <br /> mph as referenced. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Cook, <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> Assistant PW Director—Curbside Collection of Solid Waste: <br /> Catherine Laurent, Assistant Director was present to discuss the matter of <br /> curbside collection of solid waste with members of the Board of <br /> Selectmen. An estimate was provided to the Board based upon bids the <br /> Town of Sandwich received in 2001 for curbside collection by a private <br /> hauler. The level of service as proposed in the Town of Sandwich RFP, <br /> weekly collection of trash and biweekly collection of recyclables is <br /> assumed for the Town of Mashpee in this review. <br /> The curbside collection estimate is $1,269,540 for fiscal year 2007. The <br /> estimated cost is $135 per household, a total of 9,404 households. The <br /> figure does not include other collection costs. Ms. Laurent noted that <br /> additional costs to the Town for solid waste disposal remain unchanged. <br /> This includes the Town's share of the operational costs for the Upper Cape <br /> Regional Transfer Station,the rail transportation to SEMASS and the <br /> tipping fees at SEMASS. The cost proposal in total is $1,874,492. <br /> • <br />
