The School Department after budget reductions, requested
consideration to appropriate the sum of$15,375,000 in fiscal year 2002.
Budget deliberations considered segregating Special Education(SPED) as
a separate line item in the omnibus budget. The School Superintendent
was requested to bring forth a recommended figure for appropriation.
In response to the Selectmen's request for the total dollar amount
projected in the School budget for FY02 tuition for SPED students in
collaborative, private and other public school placements, the sum of
$750,615.81 was presented as follows;
9100 Account--"In Mass." $ 28,000.00
9300 Account—"Other than Public Schools" $322,041.81
9420 Account—"Collaborative Instruction" $399,774.00
Total: $750M 5.81
It was noted that the 9000 Accounts as listed above include funds for the
tuition of these students, outside evaluations and therapies as well as
summer program costs.
It was noted that tuition costs associated to special education vary from
year to year, and are difficult to project.
