MA 02649
FINANCE COMMITTEE
Minutes
May 23 , 1988
Town Hall
Present: Edward Dolan, Carole Dunivan, John Ferriday, Carl Heller,
Gerald Sewell, William Towner
The Finance Committee convened at 7 p.m. Chairman Heller
noted that there were two issues to be discussed with the
Selectmen at a joint meeting. First was the issue of Joyce
Howell ' s appointment to the Finance Committee to fill a one-year
unexpired term. The second matter of concern is the cost of
beach stickers .
The Chairman noted that the Finance Committee has approved
$31, 213 for Lifeguard Wages in the Park and Rec Budget . The Town
Meeting reinstated the guard and attendant position at Attaquin
Park increasing the Lifeguard Wages to $36 , 551 . Carl feels that
$16 .00 for a two-year beach sticker is ludicrous and the other
Finance Committee members concurred. With the increase to the
Lifeguard Wage account there is a definite need for an increase
in the price of the stickers issued . Member Ferriday expressed
his idea that it would be preferable to issue beach stickers to
people not cars . This would help solve the issue of resident
versus non-resident admittance to the beaches . The members also
discussed Seamist and their belief that there should be no
shuttle buses to South Cape Beach and each resident should pay
I
as an individual . Carole Dunivan noted that Seamist has both
condominiums and vacation club residents and there is a question
as to how to address vacation club members .
At 7 : 20 p.m. the Finance Committee joined the Selectmen' s
meeting already in progress . Selectman Carter motioned that
Joyce Howell be appointed to the one-year unexpired term on the
Finance Committee to replace Lucille Misurella. This was voted
unanimously by the Selectmen.
Selectman Gottlieb stated that there had been a meeting with
Seamist and that they had agreed to stop the shuttle bus to South
Cape Beach. Seamist agreed that residents will buy their own
stickers, even the vacation club members who are there for one
i
