6
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
July 23, 2001
NEW BUSINESS:
Sweeping of Private Roads:
Correspondence was received from the Peninsula Council, Inc. a
property owners' association of New Seabury dated July 14, 2001
relative to the spring street sweeping throughout the member
villages.
Greg Taylor, Director of Public Works was present to discuss this
concern. The estimated cost to sweep all private roads after the
winter season is $82,235.
Mr. Taylor indicated that he does not have the manpower to
conduct the street sweeping. This year, the Town's vendor that
supplies street sweeping could only provide two weeks of
assistance. The Town owns a single street sweeper.
After a lengthy discussion of the process, the Selectmen authorized
the Director of Public Works to initiate an RFP for the sweeping of
the entire Town. The Request for Proposal should include all
trucking associated.to street sweeping with the addition of a
performance bond for the intended time frame of services.
Funding would be included in the FY03 DPW budget for said
purpose.
The issue would be further discussed on August 16, 2001 at the
non-resident taxpayer meeting.
