7 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> August 6, 2001 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Helene DeFoe: <br /> The Board of Selectmen met to discuss matters with the Library Director <br /> related to the inclusion of a leaflet soliciting donations for the Library <br /> Expansion Project with the FY02 real estate tax bills. <br /> Helene DeFoe, the Library Director was in attendance. The Mashpee <br /> Public Library Board of Trustees was also present. <br /> The Selectmen agreed that the memorandum of July 20, 2001 directed to <br /> the Board from the Board of Trustees exonerates Mrs. DeFoe as she was <br /> instructed to arrange for the tax bill insert under the direction of the <br /> Library Board of Trustees. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Leveille to exonerate Helene DeFoe and <br /> declare that Mrs. DeFoe shall suffer no disciplinary action by any <br /> board or committee in the Town of Mashpee. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Green. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 3-0. <br /> David Burton, Chairman of the Library Board of Trustees commended the <br /> Board of Selectmen for the manner in which this matter was addressed. <br /> It was noted that 86 donations have been received in the amount of$4,000 <br /> for the Library building donation fund. A substantial pledge has also been <br /> secured. Town Counsel has verified_ that the donations are tax deductible. <br /> The donation account set-up will be discussed with the Town Accountant <br /> for appropriate placement to earmark funding. <br /> Nancy Caffyn indicated that she is pleased with the outcome of the <br /> meeting and is a strong supporter of Mrs. DeFoe as Library Director. She <br /> remitted a memorandum to the Selectmen dated August 3, 2001 relative to <br /> this regard. The letter outlines Mrs. Caffyn's concerns. <br />
