1 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> November 5, 2001 <br /> M: <br /> Present: Selectman Cahalane, Selectman Taylor, Selectman Green <br /> Acting Town Administrator Joyce Mason <br /> Absent: Selectman Marsters, Selectman Leveille <br /> { <br /> Meeting Called to Order by Chairman Cahalane at 6:30 p.m. <br /> Town Hall, Conference Room 41. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Public Comment: <br /> On behalf of the Assembly of Delegates, Mary LeClaire presented a new <br /> computer and printer to the Mashpee Council on Aging. Lyn Waterman, <br /> Council on Aging Outreach Coordinator was present to accept the <br /> contribution. The County Assembly of Delegates, using surplus funding <br /> distributed the same type of gift to all Cape communities. <br /> Fire Chief—Update: <br /> George Baker, Mashpee Fire Chief was present to update the Selectmen <br /> on departmental responses related to the investigation of hazardous and <br /> threatening materials. To date, all test samples have been reported <br /> negative. <br /> Each of the responses in Mashpee was investigated immediately by both <br /> the Police and Fire Departments. In five incidences,the Town received <br /> assistance from the Regional Hazardous Materials Team. All suspicious <br /> substances were sent to the State Department of Public Health in Boston. <br /> It was noted that Mashpee is the only Cape and Islands town that is <br /> federally certified to handle biohazard emergencies following the <br /> Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act. <br /> Fire Chief Baker indicted that he would continue to integrate a multi <br /> disciplinary approach in dealing with suspicious letters and packages. He <br /> will closely review threats associated to the community in Executive <br /> Session with the Board of Selectmen and work towards addressing <br /> specific issues related to future emergency planning for the community. <br /> I <br />
