OWN
 411
'Ali &[un of *Pre
m>,, •. ` P. 0. BOX 1108
Atii-Fco" MASHPEE. MA 02649
FINANCE COMSMIITEE MINUTES
Town Hall
May 7, 1989
Present : Edward Dolan , Carole Dunivan , John Ferriday , Tony
Gallo, Carl Heller and William Towner
The Finance Committee meeting convened at 2 p .m . This
meeting was scheduled to review the articles scheduled for the
next Town Meeting session , to discuss the override of $56 , 789
that failed and to elect new officers of the Finance Committee .
Carole Dunivan nominated Edward Dolan for Chairman of the
Finance Committee, seconded by John Ferriday , unanimous vote
of approval by all present .
Tony Gallo nominated Carole Dunivan for Vice Chairman ,
seconded by John Ferriday , unanimous vote of approval by all
present .
Tony Gallo nominated John Ferriday as Clerk of the Finance
Committee . This motion was seconded by Carole Dunivan and there
was a unanimous vote of approval by all present .
Finance Committee discussed the election of May 6 , 1989 .
The voter turnout was .1 , 922 . Both school overrides were passed ,
however the third override question for $56 , 789 to fund five
municipal positions was defeated . It was speculated that it was
just easier to turn down this override in view of the severity
of the previous two override questions . Ed suggested that these
requests for positions be moved to another ballot . There may have
to be a transfer out of the Reserve Fund for the Assessors . John
expressed the situation of the Conservation Department . The
Chairman of the Commission . is concerned because the present
part time secretary is looking for full time employment . If she
should leave the Department the Chairman will have to train both
a Conservation Agent and a .secretary . Finance Committee members
were in agreement that they did not want to go back into the
budgets to fund these positions . Ed recommended that each position
should be voted on individually . This might give some of the
positions a better chance . These can go on the June ballot .
