MA 02649
FINANCE COMLIITPSE MINUTES
I
February 12, 1991
Mashpee Public Library
present: Carole Dunivan, John Ferriday, Tony Gallo, Deirdre Greelish,
Carl Heller and Jim Vaccaro
The Finance Committee meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Tony
Gallo motioned that the minutes of the February 5th meeting be approved,
seconded by Deirdre Greelish and there was unanimous approval.
Carl informed the Committee that Dr. DeMoura had completed two
impact statements for the Finance Committee. One would illustrate the
impact of a $286,000 (the $86,000 represents the enrollement of new SPED
students) reduction-and the other --illustrating- the impact of a $386,000
reduction.
At the Finance Committee meeting. of February 5th members discussed
the reduction of salaries for all elected board officials. This discussion
was continued. Tony Gallo motioned that the. Board .of Selectmen's salary
be reduced to $1500. This motion was seconded by John Ferriday. Carole
expressed her feelings that $2500 (the present salary) did not seem like
too much to give. Deirdre stressed that there was no logic or equity in
the salary for boards. The Chairman noted that the Selectmen had taken a
salary cut last year. This motion represents a savings of $5,000 for the
town. When Tony's motion was put to a vote there was unanimous approval.
Members addressed the salary for the Board of Assessors. Again Deirdre
noted there was no logic as to who was to get paid and how much. She stated
that she would like to see all elected board salaries dropped to zero and
then have the town establish some sort of a policy on this issue. She
stressed there is no logic as to why some boards receive a salary and others
don't. Tony motioned that the Board of Assessors received a salary of
$1000, seconded by Carl., This motioned failed - no votes in favor.
Deirdre motioned that the salary for the Board of Assessors be zero,
provided there is no :bylaw. conflict. This motion was seconded by Tony.
There was unanimous agreement that the Board of Assessors should be a
non-salaried position.
