If it
doesn' t happen then the Town will have to borrow and it will
put short term interest in deficit . Also under new business
Jane LaBute has submitted a Request for Transfer in the
amount of $1 , 375 to cover the cost of the election for recall
of Willard Hanson. Denise noted that she had an
item she would like to address under old business. She
informed the Committee that she had written to the State
Ethics Commission asking if she was in conflict , working
full-time in the Assessors Office and being a member of the
Finance Committee . She stated that she had received a reply
on Friday. They have advised her that she is not in conflict
if she steps down from discussion and vote on any items
regarding the Assessing Office. Denise noted that she will
also step down during any discussions of the clerical union.
She has advised the Town Clerk of this information. Denise
also noted that she had seen an advertisement in the
newspaper for a custodian/mechanic in the police department .
Jim noted that he will check into this and report back to the
Committee. Members discussed keeping the public informed.
Al suggested that something be sent out in the tax bill. Jim
suggested that it might be better to do something in
February, because the figures are so volatile . In February
the figures will be more set . The Committee could make up a
chart and it would be easier for the people to understand.
This is particularly true if an override is necessary. Jim
stressed the need for people to see what they are going to
get for their override dollar. Al mentioned a 4-day work-
week and Jim stated that this would save the Town $3, 600 a
day (excluding the police, fire and school) .
Members voted to go- into Executive Session at 9 : 05 to discuss
litigation.
The next meeting of the Finance Committee is December 10,
1991 at 7 p.m.
74"6
Gail McNabb
Board Secretary
