Mr. Baker requested that we leave this alone until
tomorrow night. Ms. Sullivan also mentioned that if the police
department really needs this position, they can go to town meeting
and create it.
Dan Goggin stated that he spoke with Dr. DeMoura at an affair and
they have an appointment to meet to discuss the questions of the
Finance Committee.
Members then agreed to talk about the Article of consolidating
capital expenditures. Mr. Gallo and Ms. Greelish hadn't had time
to prepare it for this evening. Diane Rommelmeyer was present at
the meeting and asked to make comment about this consolidation.
She had received a memo regarding the consolidation which she
disagreed with. The Finance Committee also disagreed with the memo
and stated that the Article would not be structured that way. The
memo indicated that money would be consolidated for capital
expenses and the Board of Selectmen would have control over it.
Mr. Gallo explained that this would be so, but the amount of money
would have specifics as to where it would be spent. There was a
question that a problem could arise where the Board of Selectmen
could spend the consolidated monies any way they wanted. No was
the answer, the way the Article would be submitted there would be
detailed amounts for each department. Ms.
Rommelmeyer stated that if money is specified in a motion, then it
has to be used specifically for what it is motioned for. Ms. Greelish is going to inquire as to the exact amount
it will take to fix the pumper.
Ms. Greelish asked Mr. Polsi exactly what the Department of Public
Works was requesting in their capital expenses? Mr. Poisi stated
that we reduced their capital expense from $70,000 to $50,000.
Mr. Gallo indicated that the purchase of police cruisers is a
boggling question every year. The Chief and Deputy always end up
with a new car. Ms. Rommelmeyer stated that there should be some
inventory done of town vehicles. Mr. Gallo handed out a copy of a
"Master Vehicle List" received from the Board of Selectmen's
office. Mr. Gallo was not certain that this list was a correct
list.
