The selectmen had agreed that the Finance Committee's
recommended budget was good. The only problem they felt with the
budget was regarding the salary increase for the elected assessors
and the School Department. The Selectmen and the Finance Committee
discussed these issues. Mr. Harrington and the Selectmen felt that
it was unfair to increase the Assessors' elected account, without
increasing other department's elected officials salaries. They
felt it was being inconsistent. Mr. Harrington mentioned that the
difference between his budget and the Finance Committee's budget,
was approximately $1,500. They also discussed the warrants for the
Annual and. Special Town. Meetings.
After the Selectmen had exited the meeting the Finance Committee
members discussed the assessors and the school again. Ms. Sullivan
stepped down from discussing the assessor's issue. Ms. Greelish
stated that the committee should reconsider moving the assessors'
elected monies into their expense account, so that other elected
officials will not be upset. Dan Goggin also felt that the
committee was being inconsistent. The Finance Committee agreed to
move $1,800 into the assessors' expense account and only leave $900
in the elected account.
The Finance Committee also agreed to leave the school department's
recommended budget at $5. 3 million, rather than $5, 324 ,809 .
The meeting adjourned at 11:00 P.M. The next meeting will be at
7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 15, 1992.
Minutes submitted by Jean M. Mooney, Finance Board Secretary
