Mr. Gallo felt that the money would not solve the problem. <br /> He felt that it was an internal problem. <br /> Dr. Lincoln DeMoura and other members of the School Committee were <br /> also present at the meeting. Tony Gallo stepped down from <br /> discussion. Deidre Greelish, Vice-Chairperson stepped in for Tony <br /> Gallo. Dr. DeMoura requested that the Finance Committee reconsider <br /> their recommendation. the Finance Committee had agreed to $5.3 <br /> million, but the School Committee is now requesting $5,324,809 for <br /> the cost of an extra bus and two additional routes. Dr. DeMoura <br /> stated to the Board that if the extra money was not granted, the <br /> kindergarten program would have to be changed from the traditional <br /> way of doing things. He indicated that instead of the children <br /> going five days a week for a 1/2 day, they would go .a full day, <br /> three days a week and then two days the following week.. This would <br /> cause lots of problems -for parents regarding transportation and <br /> daycare. Members. suggested that there should be some money in <br /> their expenses which could cover the transportation problem. Dr. <br /> DeMoura insisted that there was not. Members also discussed the <br /> school contract negotiations coming up, and whether or not there <br /> could be a member of the Finance Committee present. The answer was <br /> no there could not. Members also discussed their budget and the <br /> $21,000 request for a new van. Denise asked whether the old van <br /> would be traded in? Ms. Greelish questioned the computers and the <br /> request for new ones. Dr. DeMoura stated that they would be <br /> getting rid of 40% of their machines, which are old Apple lIs. He <br /> indicated that the old machines would go to the kindergartens.. Mr. <br /> Baker requested that Dr. DeMoura report back to the committee on <br /> exactly how much of a difference in price it would be to keep the <br /> kindergarten the traditional way without making change to it. <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Deidre Greelish MOTIONED to. approve $1,600 for new navigational <br /> aids. Ed Baker seconded the motion and members voted 6-1, John <br /> Ferriday opposing. <br /> John Ferriday reported back to the committee regarding the <br /> petitioned warrants for the Annual Town Meeting. Mr. Ferriday felt <br /> strongly that these groups should receive something.. He felt that <br /> they were legitimate requests, with statements to back them up. <br /> Although there was a question regarding Independence House. It <br /> seemed that they billed for the same -amount each quarter -with the <br /> same amount of clients and. the same amount of hours spent. Mr. <br /> Ferriday suggested that we put all of the money recommended by the <br /> Finance Committee into the Board of Health for them to distribute. <br /> Dan Goggin questioned whether the Finance Committee should let it <br /> go through Board of Health or keep it with the Board. of Selectmen. <br /> who have been doing it right along. <br />
