2
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
May 22, 2000
Barnstable Counly Assembly Delegates Interviews: (continued)
James Morgan:
Current Finance Committee member James Morgan indicated that his
present position would give additional insight to articulate and strengthen
the Town's position on the Assembly. Mr. Morgan indicated that he has
the time to devote to the position, and is familiar with active issues
pertaining to the County Assembly.
Correspondence was received from Town Counsel regarding whether a
member of the Finance Committee is able to hold any other elected or
appointed position in the Town of Mashpee. In Town Counsel's opinion,
a member of the Finance Committee would not be able to fill the vacant
position. (Section 5-8 of the Town By-law)
In response, Mr. Morgan stated that he would resign from the Finance
Committee if he were appointed to the Assembly of Delegates to avoid
any potential conflict of interest.
Marcia King:
Marcia King, present elective member of the Board of Assessors and
previous Finance Committee member was interviewed and considered as
Mashpee's representative to the Barnstable County Assembly of
Delegates.
After a lengthy discussion, the Board agreed that the three referenced
candidates were deemed well Qualified and competent to serve as
Mashpee's representative to the County Assembly. There was concern
relative to the appointment of an incumbent since an election for the
position is scheduled in early November.
Motion made by Selectman Green to select(1) of the three referenced
candidates for the Assembly of Delegates by secret ballot.
Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
Recess: T08 p.m. Meeting Re-convened: 7:10 p.m.
