6
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
August 28, 2000
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Heritage Park Road Extension:
Stephen Giatrelis, Cape Drive, Mashpee was present to request the Board
consider a road extension to the subdivision next to Heritage Park on
Route 130. (Map 26, parcels 5 & 16)
Greg Taylor,Director of Public Works recommended approval. ft was
noted that the road location as proposed aligns with the existing parking
lot, and will not impact the existing fields. The location is favorable and
the road extension would prove beneficial to the Town.
Tom Fudala, the Town Planner indicated that the applicant has not been
formally before the Planning Board with this issue although he is familiar
with the proposal. Mr. Fudala noted that subdivision regulations limit any
dead end road to 800' and the Planning Board may grant a waiver of
requirements as long as emergency access is provided.
The issue was taken under advisement at this time.
Proposed Lowell Road/Great Neck Road N. Intersection Realignment:
A preliminary plan to realign Lowell Road to intersect Great Neck Road at
a right angle was considered to improve traffic operations and safety at the
intersection.. Mr. Fudala and Mr. Taylor indicated that they are supportive
of the realignment concept to which the developer would assume all
engineering costs associated with the designing of the intersection.
However, the Town would be responsible for construction, which would
take place over the next two to three years to accommodate the
development and related phasing schedule of the subdivision. It was noted
that the Cape Cod Commission has scheduled a DRI hearing on
September 7, 2000 to review this matter.
The Board agreed that it would be timely to refer their position to the CCC
prior to technical review.. The Commission will be requested to consider
the use of mitigation funds to construct the front entrance realignment.
Mashpee's representative to the CCC will be consulted with respect to this
regard. The Cape Cod Commission will be requested to address this
matter, and postpone the hearing if necessary.
